As part of our commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and school waste management, ECOFUTURES carried out a Sensitization and Trashcan Distribution Initiative in the Bangem Municipality. This initiative aimed at improving hygiene, encouraging responsible waste disposal, and instilling environmental consciousness among students.

ECOFUTURES conducted a needs assessment to determine the waste management challenges faced by schools in Bangem Municipality. The findings showed that most schools lacked adequate waste disposal facilities, leading to littering and poor sanitation. These findings prompted the distribution of trashcans as an immediate intervention.
The team successfully distributed trashcans to four schools; G.B.H.S Bangem, G.T.H.S Bangem, P.C.S.S Bangem, and AVEMACOL Bangem ensuring that they were strategically placed in classrooms, school yards, and other high-traffic areas. The distribution process involved school administrators, teachers, and students to ensure proper placement and commitment to usage.
Alongside the distribution, ECOFUTURES carried out a brief sensitization session in each school to educate students and staff on:
• The importance of proper waste disposal.
• The effects of poor waste management on health and the environment.
• How to separate and dispose of waste responsibly.
• The role of students in maintaining a clean school environment. Through interactive discussions, students pledged to take responsibility for keeping their school compounds clean.
The initiative has already begun to show positive results:
✅ Improved sanitation in school compounds.
✅ Increased awareness of proper waste disposal among students and teachers.
✅ Reduction in littering, as students now have designated places to dispose of waste.
✅ Stronger collaboration between schools and ECOFUTURES in environmental conservation efforts.
